Adam’s Cloud -Before You Sleep -Benji Bennett

I was at the Baby & Pregnancy Fair in Dublin last weekend where I was introduced to a lovely series of books called Adam’s Cloud. I was running around in the last half hour of the show looking for something to take home for Jack when I came across the stand of beautifully illustrated books.

A lovely lady called Jackie explained that her husband wrote these books.  As I read to Jack most nights I thought these books would be perfect, after realising I had used all my cash and they weren’t taking cards, then to be told the cash machine had run out of money I thought I was going to have to leave it, but Jackie kindly gave me a lovely book for free called “Before You Sleep”  as she didn’t want us to miss out on the world of Adam just because I had no cash on me and she said she was confident that once I had one book that I would be hooked and would want to get the rest of the series … and she was right!!!

The book “Before You Sleep” is a really lovely book to read to your little one before they go to bed. Each page starts off “I love you much more than…” and the verses are all rhyming taking you from making sandcastles on a sunny beach to aliens in outer space, treasure hunting on a pirate adventure, back in time to dinosaurs and cavemen, around the world on a jumbo jet seeing the sights of the world to rollercoaster rides at a fairground, finishing up with Adam in bed and his parents kissing him goodnight.

I actually read this book to Jack before fully reading the tribute at the front of the book. I then went online and learned of the very sad story of the author and his wife suddenly losing their 4 year old son Adam to an aggressive brain tumour. Benji Bennett the author wrote these books as a tribute to his son.

Reading “Before You Sleep” since learning the story of Adam brings a lump to my throat, and hitting me with an awareness of the overwhelming love I have for my children and how precious they are to me. Whilst the adult reading the story is hit with the sentimental meaning behind the story, to the child it’s just a story of love, sandcastles, aliens, dinosaurs and fairground rides, with beautiful, bright, colourful pictures to match.

I am really looking forward to reading more books from Adams Cloud and I can see a few people getting these for Christmas and birthday presents this year too.

Other titles in the series are:
Adam’s Amazing  Space Adventure
Adam Saves Christmas
Adam’s Pirate treasure
Adam’s World of Wonders
