I have just read a post from mama.ie called Incompatible with Life which is about the terrible treatment of women in Ireland who are
given the awful news that their unborn babies have a condition deemed
incompatible with life and that their babies will either die before they are
born or very shortly after birth. These women are given 2 choices either to “let
nature take its course” or to travel to UK to get the pregnancy terminated.
Irish legislation does not allow for these women to have
these terminations carried out in their own country, in their own hospital,
surrounded by their family and friends instead they have the extra trauma of
arranging travel to another country to have the procedure carried out and also
having to travel home after having the heart-breaking procedure done, when I’m
sure the only place they want to be is in their own home to grieve.
There is also a very good article in the Irish Times about a
group of women who have been through this awful ordeal and who have come together to start a campaign to Make Termination
for Medical Reasons Available in Ireland.
You can find the campaign to legalise termination services for medical reasons in Ireland on Facebook: Make Termination for Medical Reasons Available in Ireland. Or you can sign their petition on the link below
If you or someone you know have had or are thinking about termination for medical reasons, a new support group has been set up: http://www.
